At La Vaca Gigante, the challenge doesn’t begin when the horn sounds. It begins much earlier. It begins within me.
My name is Pilou Ducalme, and facing one of the biggest waves in Europe is not just about strength, technique, or bravery. It’s a deep conversation with the ocean, with the respect it deserves, and with the certainty that every decision out there matters.
But this year, my challenge goes beyond surfing.
Every wave I attempt to ride at La Vaca Gigante has a greater purpose: to support the work of Federación AICE Cantabria, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting people with hearing loss and those who have received a cochlear implant, as well as their families.
Their work promotes social inclusion, mutual support, and the normalization of life with hearing disabilities through a close, participatory, and human approach. They support people of all ages — from babies to older adults — offering resources, guidance, and ongoing support to facilitate social integration and daily well-being.
That’s why every paddle toward the peak is not just mine.
Every fall, every achievement, and every emotion is part of something much bigger.
A real opportunity to raise awareness, build inclusion, and create meaningful support.

Somos una organización sin ánimo de lucro dedicada a acompañar a personas con pérdida auditiva y a quienes han recibido un implante coclear, así como a sus familias. Nuestro trabajo nace del compromiso con la inclusión social, el apoyo mutuo y la normalización de la vida con discapacidad auditiva, siempre desde una perspectiva cercana, humana y participativa.
Apoyamos a personas con discapacidad auditiva —desde bebés hasta personas mayores—, especialmente a quienes utilizan implantes cocleares, ofreciendo también respaldo continuo a sus familias. Proporcionamos recursos, orientación y acompañamiento para facilitar su integración social y favorecer su bienestar en el día a día.
Desarrollamos programas de orientación, asesoramiento y acompañamiento personalizados, adaptados a cada etapa y necesidad. Además, impulsamos actividades de sensibilización y formación, promovemos encuentros comunitarios y llevamos a cabo proyectos que fomentan la inclusión social y la autonomía personal.
Sabemos que vivir con pérdida auditiva o tras un implante coclear implica desafíos constantes, no solo técnicos, sino también sociales y emocionales. Por eso ofrecemos acompañamiento humano, recursos prácticos y una red de apoyo donde compartir experiencias. Trabajamos para transformar barreras en oportunidades y para que ninguna persona ni ninguna familia tenga que afrontar estos retos en soledad.
