At La Vaca Gigante, the challenge doesn’t begin when the horn sounds. It begins much earlier. It begins within me.
My name is Stephane Iralour, and facing one of the biggest waves in Europe is not just about strength, technique, or bravery. It’s a deep conversation with the ocean, with the respect it deserves, and with the certainty that every decision out there matters.
But this year, my challenge goes beyond surfing.
Every wave I attempt to ride at La Vaca Gigante has a greater purpose: to support Buscando Sonrisas, a charitable association born from the belief that we are happier when we make others happy.
Since 2014, they have been working with care and dedication in Cantabria, promoting mutual support, joy, and solidarity. They support vulnerable individuals and families, with special attention to children, older adults, and groups with social and emotional needs.
That’s why every paddle toward the peak is not just mine.
Every fall, every achievement, and every emotion is part of something much bigger.
A real opportunity to share hope, create smiles, and strengthen community.

Asociación sin ánimo de lucro que nació del convencimiento de un grupo de amigos que creían firmemente que una persona es más feliz cuando hace felices a los demás. Desde 2014 trabajamos con cariño y compromiso por nuestra comunidad, promoviendo la ayuda mutua, la alegría y la solidaridad como base de cada una de nuestras acciones.
Apoyamos a personas y familias en situación de vulnerabilidad en Cantabria, prestando especial atención a niñas y niños, personas mayores y colectivos con necesidades sociales y emocionales. Nuestra labor se centra en acompañar, escuchar y ofrecer apoyo cercano a quienes más lo necesitan.
Organizamos actividades comunitarias, iniciativas inclusivas y acciones de acompañamiento, tanto en eventos sociales como en proyectos continuos. Nuestro objetivo es generar momentos de alegría, apoyo emocional y bienestar real, creando espacios donde las personas se sientan valoradas y acompañadas.
En Buscando Sonrisas transformamos gestos sencillos en momentos significativos de alegría y apoyo humano. Nuestro trabajo no solo atiende necesidades, sino que también fortalece los vínculos sociales y emocionales en el entorno más cercano, recordando que una sonrisa puede ser también un acto de cuidado y esperanza.
